01Indoor Car Storage

Indoor storage should be more than floor space

If you are looking for indoor car storage, the question is not whether the car should be inside. The question is what happens once it gets there.

Plenty of indoor storage is exactly that and no more. A building, a floor, a space with your car on it. The environment is whatever the building happens to do that week, nothing is recorded when the car arrives, and nobody looks at it again until you ask for it back.

Equerry 55 runs one private indoor building on a gated estate in Essex. Every car is inside it, in a controlled environment, with a record of how it arrived and a schedule of what happens while it stands. Its storage position is determined according to the vehicle’s requirements and any relevant manufacturer restrictions. There is no outdoor option, no yard and no container.

02What the bay includes

What a proper indoor storage bay should include

This is the list worth comparing against, whoever you are speaking to.

  • A storage position determined according to the vehicle’s requirements and any relevant manufacturer restrictions
  • Controlled humidity and winter temperature as standard, not as an upgrade
  • Battery conditioning connected on arrival
  • A breathable indoor cover over a clean car
  • Condition photographs, mileage, tyre pressures and fluid levels recorded at check in
  • Keys held separately from the vehicle
  • A defined storage process, with scheduled ongoing care on The Keep
  • Access by private appointment, booked in advance
  • A named Equerry 55 contact for the car, its access and any agreed additional services

The building, the controlled environment and the core storage standards are the same at both plan levels. The Keep adds the scheduled care shown in the pricing section below.

Why it exists
“In the beginning I looked around and could not find quite the car I dreamed of, so I decided to build it myself.
— Ferry Porsche

Same reason this exists. Nowhere kept cars the way we wanted our own kept, so we built it.

03Check in

What happens when the car arrives

Storage starts with a record, not with a parking space.

1

Recorded in

Condition photographs, mileage, tyre pressures and fluid levels, before the car goes anywhere.

2

Storage position agreed

The storage position is determined according to the vehicle’s requirements and any relevant manufacturer restrictions.

3

Set up to stand

Breathable cover over a clean car, battery conditioner connected, keys kept away from the vehicle.

4

Checked on schedule

On The Keep, weekly conditioner and drip tray checks, monthly pressures and fluids, engine run to temperature every sixty days.

5

Handed back

Condition and fluids checked, pressures set for the road, and the car ready to drive when you collect it.

04Indoor and climate controlled

Indoor car storage and climate controlled car storage are not the same thing

Indoor describes enclosure. Climate controlled describes whether humidity and temperature inside that enclosure are actively managed.

Some facilities price standard indoor storage and climate controlled storage as separate products. Equerry 55 does not.

At Equerry 55, climate control is not an upgrade. It is the baseline. Humidity is targeted at approximately 55 percent relative humidity and winter temperature is held around ten to twelve degrees Celsius, throughout the building. The Stable and The Keep share the same controlled environment. The difference between the plans is the level of vehicle care, not the quality of the building.

The full technical case for those figures, including what happens above and below them, is on the climate controlled car storage page.

TermWhat it actually describes
IndoorWhere the car is. Inside a building rather than outside, in a yard, under a canopy or in a container
CoveredA roof or cover over the vehicle. It can mean a canopy, a carport or an enclosed building, so the term alone does not guarantee indoor storage
PrivateWho else is around the car and whether the site is publicly accessible or advertised
Climate controlledWhat the air in the building is doing. Humidity and temperature managed rather than left to follow the weather
SecureWho can reach the car, and how the site is protected
05Indoor and secure

Four walls are not the same as security

Indoor tells you where the car is kept. It says nothing about who can get to it.

Equerry 55 is on a private gated estate with cameras, an alarm and controlled entry, the address is not published and keys are held away from the vehicles. All of that is set out properly on the secure car storage page rather than repeated here.

The point worth making on this page is that the two are separate questions, and a building that answers one does not automatically answer the other.

06Standing for months

Leaving the car indoors for months

Over a long stay the building stops being the whole job.

Standing still creates work of its own. Batteries discharge, tyres take a set under load, fluids age on a calendar as well as an odometer, and parking brake requirements can differ between vehicles. Battery conditioning is included on every car here. The Keep adds TyreDox support, a drip tray, weekly and monthly checks and an engine run to operating temperature every sixty days.

A three month minimum charge applies. For stays measured in years, the long term car storage page covers what changes over that sort of period, and winter car storage covers seasonal lay up.

The 55 Standard
“The best Ferrari ever built is the next one.
— Enzo Ferrari

Fifty five percent relative humidity. Ten to twelve degrees through winter. Checked on a schedule and written down, so the next car is kept better than the last.

07Storage plans

Two storage plans. One concierge network. A three month minimum charge applies. Prices are monthly and shown plus VAT. Concierge requests, transport, servicing, MOT work, detailing, repairs, road testing and specialist supplier costs are quoted separately.

“Small things make perfection, but perfection is no small thing.
— Sir Henry Royce

Batteries sulphate. Tyres flat-spot. Fluids draw water and brakes bind. None of it is dramatic and all of it is expensive.

11Indoor Car Storage questions

Indoor Car Storage FAQs

What is indoor car storage?

Indoor car storage means the vehicle is kept inside a dedicated storage building rather than in a yard, under a carport or in a general purpose unit. At Equerry 55 that is a private indoor facility in Essex, with a storage position determined according to the vehicle’s requirements and any relevant manufacturer restrictions, a controlled environment, a breathable cover and battery conditioning on every car.

How much does indoor car storage cost?

The Stable is £250 plus VAT per month and The Keep is £350 plus VAT per month. Both plans carry a minimum charge equivalent to three months. A shorter stay can be arranged, but the minimum charge still applies. Both plans use the same building and the same controlled environment.

Is indoor car storage better than outdoor storage?

An enclosed building removes exposures that outdoor or partially covered storage cannot, so for a car being kept rather than used the answer is straightforward. The more useful question is what the building does beyond keeping the weather off: whether the conditions are managed, whether the car is checked while it stands, and whether any of it is recorded.

Is your indoor car storage climate controlled?

Yes, and it is not sold as an upgrade. Humidity is targeted at approximately 55 percent relative humidity and winter temperature is held around ten to twelve degrees Celsius throughout the building. Both plans share the same environment.

What is the difference between indoor and climate controlled car storage?

Indoor describes enclosure. Climate controlled describes whether humidity and temperature inside that enclosure are actively managed. Some facilities price the two as separate products. At Equerry 55 the controlled environment is the baseline, included at both plan levels.

Is it the same as covered or private car storage?

No. The terms describe different things. Indoor means the vehicle is inside an enclosed building. Covered or undercover can also mean a canopy or carport. Private describes access and who else is around the vehicle. Equerry 55 is fully enclosed indoor storage on a private site, with the address shared only with approved clients.

Is the car covered while it is stored indoors?

Yes. Every car receives a breathable indoor cover once it has been checked in and prepared for storage.

Is battery conditioning included?

Yes, on every car at both plan levels. On The Keep the conditioner status is checked weekly.

Can I access my car during storage?

Yes, by private appointment booked in advance. Cars go out for events, trips and services and come back in afterwards.

Can a car be stored indoors long term?

Yes. Longer stays can be arranged, and both plans carry a minimum charge equivalent to three months. Longer stays are where consistent indoor conditions and ongoing vehicle care become increasingly important.

Do you offer indoor car storage near London?

Equerry 55 is at a private site in Essex with access from the M11, M25 and A406, which keeps it within practical reach for London owners. Collection and delivery can be arranged.

Do you store classic cars and supercars indoors?

Yes. Classics, modern classics, prestige, performance and collector cars share the same controlled building environment, while vehicle specific care requirements are handled according to the car.

Do you store electric vehicles?

No. Equerry 55 does not store electric vehicles.

Can you collect and deliver my car?

Yes. Collection and delivery can be arranged across Essex, London and the UK, and covered transport can be booked. Transport is quoted separately.

Where is the facility?

Equerry 55 is at a private site in Essex, on a gated estate, with access from the M11, M25 and A406. Visits are by appointment and the full address is shared with approved clients.
