01Hybrid car storage

One car. Two electrical systems.

A performance hybrid has a low-voltage electrical system and a separate high-voltage traction system. They do different jobs and they are not maintained in the same way.

That is why hybrid storage cannot be reduced to plugging the car in. The charging equipment, charge level, timing and whether the car should remain connected depend on the vehicle and the instructions supplied for it.

At Equerry 55 the procedure is agreed before the car arrives. The car maker’s current guidance comes first.

02Low voltage and high voltage

A battery conditioner is not the same job as hybrid charging.

The battery conditioning included with Equerry 55 storage is for the vehicle’s low-voltage system. The high-voltage traction battery is dealt with separately, using the procedure for that car.

The McLaren P1 is a useful example. McLaren describes it as a hybrid hypercar using its IPAS electrical assistance system. A P1 is not given a house charging routine copied from another hybrid. Before storage, the correct equipment and the current McLaren instructions have to be established for that car.

The same rule applies to every performance hybrid we accept.

SystemHow Equerry 55 treats it
Low voltageBattery conditioning matched to the vehicle, with conditioner status checked weekly on The Keep
High voltageCharged or conditioned only to the applicable vehicle procedure, with any extra work agreed before storage

McLaren’s public P1 material confirms the car’s hybrid IPAS powertrain. Exact charging and storage instructions are checked from the current vehicle documentation rather than copied from a generic guide. McLaren P1 official overview.

Why it exists
“In the beginning I looked around and could not find quite the car I dreamed of, so I decided to build it myself.
— Ferry Porsche

Same reason this exists. Nowhere kept cars the way we wanted our own kept, so we built it.

03The vehicle file

The charging procedure is recorded before it starts.

For a hybrid, the vehicle file needs more than a note that a charger is present. It records what equipment arrived with the car and what procedure has been agreed for the storage period.

  • Model, variant and year confirmed at check in
  • Charging or conditioning equipment supplied with the car recorded
  • Low-voltage conditioning requirement recorded
  • High-voltage charging procedure confirmed before storage
  • Charge dates or charger status recorded where the procedure requires them
  • State of charge recorded where the vehicle provides it and it is relevant to the procedure
  • Warnings or charger faults recorded and escalated rather than ignored
  • Next scheduled charging action recorded where one is required
04Manufacturer examples

The cars are similar. The procedures are not.

Three cars are enough to show why a single hybrid rule would be wrong.

VehicleWhat the manufacturer establishes
McLaren P1McLaren identifies the P1 as a hybrid using the IPAS electrical assistance system. The current P1 charging procedure is checked before the car is accepted.
Porsche 918 SpyderPorsche states that the 918 uses a 6.8 kWh lithium-ion traction battery and plug-in charging. Its high-voltage system is therefore treated separately from normal low-voltage battery conditioning.
Ferrari SF90 / 296Ferrari states that its plug-in hybrid warranty requirements include following the procedures in the specific charging-device manual supplied for the car, including use of the specified Battery Conditioner.
05State of charge

There is no Equerry 55 charge percentage.

We do not decide that every hybrid should be left at the same state of charge, connected for the same number of hours or checked on the same interval.

If the manufacturer gives a figure, interval or sequence, that is the procedure used. If the current procedure cannot be established, Equerry 55 does not invent one.

This matters because a McLaren P1, Porsche 918, Ferrari SF90, Ferrari 296, LaFerrari or Lamborghini Revuelto may all need different treatment even though every one of them is a hybrid.

06The storage standard

Hybrid care sits on top of the normal storage standard.

Humidity is targeted at approximately 55 percent relative humidity and winter temperature is held around ten to twelve degrees Celsius. Condition photographs, mileage, tyre pressures and fluid levels are recorded at check in. Battery conditioning, a breathable indoor cover and access by appointment are included at both plan levels.

High-voltage charging is different. Where a hybrid requires scheduled traction-battery charging, special equipment or extra handling, that requirement is agreed before arrival and may require a bespoke quotation.

Fully electric vehicles are not accepted. This page is for hybrid vehicles with an internal-combustion engine and an electrified drivetrain.

The 55 Standard
“The best Ferrari ever built is the next one.
— Enzo Ferrari

Fifty five percent relative humidity. Ten to twelve degrees through winter. Checked on a schedule and written down, so the next car is kept better than the last.

The car remains available to you.

You can use the car during the storage term. If you want it for a day, a weekend, a trip, an event or any other planned use, access is booked in advance and the car is prepared for collection.

Before collection, tyre pressures, fluid levels and condition are checked. Any hybrid-specific charging step required before or after use follows the agreed vehicle procedure.

Collection and delivery can be arranged across the UK, agreed in advance and quoted separately.

09Hybrids we can review

Performance and collector hybrids, reviewed car by car.

Acceptance depends on the vehicle, the correct charging equipment being available and the current storage procedure being clear before arrival.

Preservation
“Small things make perfection, but perfection is no small thing.
— Sir Henry Royce

Batteries sulphate. Tyres flat-spot. Fluids draw water and brakes bind. None of it is dramatic and all of it is expensive.

12Hybrid Car Storage questions

Hybrid Car Storage FAQs

Do you store hybrid cars?

Yes. Performance and collector hybrids can be accepted subject to review of the vehicle, the correct charging equipment and the manufacturer’s current storage and charging requirements before arrival.

Do you store fully electric cars?

No. Equerry 55 does not currently store fully electric vehicles.

Does a hybrid stay plugged in while it is stored?

Not necessarily. Some cars use a charger or conditioner continuously, others use a timed or periodic procedure, and some manage the high-voltage system differently. The procedure follows the vehicle manufacturer rather than one Equerry 55 rule.

Is the normal battery conditioner the same as charging the hybrid battery?

No. The battery conditioning included with storage applies to the vehicle’s low-voltage system. High-voltage traction-battery charging is a separate vehicle-specific procedure and is agreed before storage.

Can you store a McLaren P1?

A McLaren P1 can be considered subject to prior approval, the correct charging equipment being available and the current McLaren procedure being confirmed before the car arrives. Equerry 55 does not apply a generic hybrid charging schedule to a P1.

Can you store a Ferrari SF90 or 296?

Yes, subject to prior approval and confirmation of the correct Ferrari charging equipment and procedure. Ferrari states that its plug-in hybrid warranty requirements include following the procedures in the specific charging-device manual supplied for the car.

Can you store a Porsche 918 Spyder?

A Porsche 918 Spyder can be considered subject to prior approval and confirmation of the current Porsche charging and storage procedure. The 918 uses a lithium-ion traction battery and plug-in charging system, so its high-voltage care is treated separately from normal low-voltage battery conditioning.

Do I need to supply the original charger?

Where the manufacturer calls for specific charging or conditioning equipment, the correct equipment must be available before storage begins. This is confirmed during the pre-storage review.

What do you record for a hybrid car?

The storage file records the vehicle details, the charging equipment supplied, the procedure agreed at check in and the scheduled actions completed. State of charge or charger status is recorded where the vehicle provides it and the applicable procedure requires it.

What state of charge do you keep a hybrid battery at?

There is no single Equerry 55 percentage. The target, charging interval and whether the vehicle remains connected depend on the manufacturer’s procedure for that model.

How much does hybrid car storage cost?

The Stable is £250 plus VAT per month and The Keep is £350 plus VAT per month, with a three month minimum term. High-value or specialist hybrids may require prior approval and a bespoke quotation where additional charging or handling requirements apply.

Can I use the car during the storage term?

Yes. You can use the car during the storage term. Access is by appointment booked in advance.

Can you collect and deliver a hybrid car?

Yes. Collection and delivery can be arranged across the UK, agreed in advance and quoted separately.

Where is the facility?

Equerry 55 operates from one private indoor facility. Visits are by appointment and the full storage address is shared with approved clients rather than published openly.
