Equerry 55 is a private indoor car storage facility in Essex, built around a simple belief: a car that matters should not go backwards simply because it is standing still. We did not set out to create another place full of parked cars. We set out to build the place we would trust with our own.
It began with a decision
The decision was not to open another car storage facility. It was to remove uncertainty from storing a car.
Not a lock up where the environment is guessed at. Not somewhere a battery check depends on memory. Not somewhere the condition of the car is reconstructed months later.
Measured, not assumed. Recorded, not remembered. Agreed, not improvised.
The environment would have a target. The car would arrive with a documented condition. Scheduled care would be recorded. Anything outside the storage plan would be agreed before it happened. And the owner would know who was responsible.
That was the decision. Everything else came afterwards.
First came the cars
Long before Equerry 55 had a name, there were the cars. Early Porsche 911s from the sixties. A 1966 912. A 356 Speedster. Modern 911s including a GTS. And a Ferrari 599 that remains the favourite.
The list is not the important part. What matters is what happens when you stop simply owning old cars and start taking them apart.
Older Porsches became restorations, taken back far enough that the condition of a fixing, a seal or a piece of metal that might never be seen again suddenly mattered enormously. You see where moisture sits. You see what inactivity does. You learn that a car does not have to be moving to go backwards, and that expensive deterioration can begin while nothing appears to be happening at all.
Once you have spent that much time putting a car right, leaving its storage to chance stops making sense. Storage becomes part of ownership, and that is where Equerry 55 came from.
A standard should be measurable or it is only an opinion
Fifty five is not decoration. It is the environmental target around which the facility is operated: approximately fifty five percent relative humidity, managed to reduce the conditions that encourage damp, condensation and corrosion while a vehicle is standing. Through winter the temperature is managed around ten to twelve degrees Celsius.
Environment is only half of preservation. The rest is process.
Every car is received with a documented check in recording condition photographs, mileage, tyre pressures and fluid levels. It is stored indoors, connected to a battery conditioner and protected beneath a breathable indoor cover. Keys are held separately from the vehicles and access is by appointment.
The Keep goes further, adding TyreDox supports, a drip tray, weekly battery and drip tray checks, monthly tyre pressure and fluid checks, an engine run to full operating temperature every sixty days, and a vehicle file updated after every scheduled check.
There should be no mystery around whether something was done. Measure it. Record it. Check it. That is The 55 Standard.
Standards have edges
Equerry 55 currently accepts petrol and diesel vehicles and does not accept battery electric vehicles under its present facility risk policy.
Outside work is not commissioned without the owner's approval. Our core storage prices are published openly. Transport, concierge work and third party services are quoted and agreed before anything is booked or carried out.
A car is not accepted where its requirements, declared value or insurance position cannot be handled properly. Sometimes the correct answer to an enquiry is no, and we would rather lose a booking than accept a car under conditions we do not believe are right.
Market value is not the same thing as meaning. Some cars are valuable because the market says they are. Others are valuable because somebody spent ten years restoring them, because they belonged to somebody who mattered, or simply because their owner would never replace them. If the car matters to you, the conversation is worth having.
Built by an owner, for owners
Bobby founded Equerry 55 after years of owning, driving and restoring classic and performance cars. Taking older Porsches back to bare metal created an eye for details that are easy to ignore when a car looks finished, and very little patience for anything done approximately.
There is a difference between admiring old cars and having taken one apart far enough to understand where deterioration begins.
That experience shaped the way Equerry 55 operates. Do what was agreed. Do it properly. Be straightforward when something cannot be done. Never spend somebody else's money without their approval. And never forget that the car in front of you may represent years of work or a lifetime of wanting it.

The name has to mean something
A reputation is the distance between what a business says and what actually happens after the keys are handed over. Our job is to make that distance disappear.
We know exactly what we want the Equerry 55 name to stand for. Precision in the details. Reliability when something has been agreed. Discretion around the cars and their owners. Accountability when a decision needs to be made. And customer service where responsibility never disappears behind the business.
Those are not words for a wall. They are tested every time a car arrives, every time a scheduled check becomes due, every time a client calls and every time a vehicle is handed back.
Our ambition is deliberately high: to become the standard by which private car storage is judged. Not the biggest. Not the loudest. The name owners recommend when a car matters too much to leave somewhere ordinary. That reputation is earned one car at a time.

The address is not published openly and is shared with approved clients and visitors. The storage area is alarmed and covered by CCTV, access is controlled, and vehicles are photographed and logged on arrival.
There is only so much a website should be allowed to tell you about somewhere you intend to leave an important car. The environment is real, the equipment is real, and a standard should survive being inspected.
